[Activity] Chairman Choi Jai-chul Delivers Message at the 1st Garden City Seminar: “Garden Cities as a Solution for Climate Adaptation and Resilience”

On September 23, Chairman Jai-chul Choi delivered opening remarks at the 1st Seminar on Garden Cities in the Era of Climate Crisis, co-hosted by the Climate Change Center and the Garden City Forum. In his address, he underscored the adaptive value and global significance of gardens and urban forests in the context of climate resilience. Chairman Choi highlighted the growing importance of adaptation and resilience enhancement as emerging priorities in international cooperation, stating: “Gardens and urban forests go far beyond landscaping. They strengthen the resilience of citizens, communities, and ecosystems, and serve as a foundation that supports a carbon-neutral society.”
The seminar explored strategies for developing a Korean model of garden cities that integrate climate crisis response, biodiversity conservation, and urban planning. Discussions also examined concrete policy, fiscal, and governance measures in alignment with international trends. Organized by the Climate Change Center, this seminar marked a significant step in redefining gardens and urban forests as essential infrastructure for climate adaptation and in expanding the execution framework through the participation of local governments, civil society, and the private sector.
