[Activity] Chairman Jai-Chul Choi Awarded the Rank of Grand Officier of the French National Order of Merit

Chairman Jai-Chul Choi of the Climate Change Center was awarded the rank of Grand Officier of the French National Order of Merit on February 12 at the Residence of France in Seoul. The decoration was presented by Philippe Bertoux, Ambassador of France to the Republic of Korea.
The French government recognized Chairman Choi’s distinguished contributions to strengthening bilateral relations between Korea and France during his tenure as Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to France and as Climate Change Ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His long-standing commitment to climate action was particularly highlighted. Notably, he served as Chief Delegate of the Korean delegation during the negotiations leading to the adoption of the Paris Agreement in 2015, contributing to the successful conclusion of the landmark accord.
Chairman Choi began his diplomatic career in 1988 at the Korean Embassy in France and spent approximately ten years serving in Paris throughout his career, including his tenure as the 22nd Ambassador of Korea to France. He also served as Climate Change Ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as Executive Committee Chair and President of the General Assembly of the International Bureau of Expositions, building extensive expertise in climate and multilateral diplomacy.
In his remarks at the ceremony, Chairman Choi stated, “This honor represents not only a personal distinction but also a moment of gratitude to the governments and peoples who have worked together to advance Korea–France relations and international climate cooperation.” He added that he will continue contributing, as a member of civil society, to advancing carbon neutrality and strengthening international climate collaboration.
