■ Discarded Plastic Vinyl Reborn as New Planters

As part of the side programs for the “Geumcheon Live Visiting Everyday Life” event hosted by Geumcheon Arts & Culture Foundation, a hands-on booth titled “Making Own Companion Plant” was operated. The program was designed to introduce new possibilities for reusing discarded plastic vinyl from everyday life and to help citizens directly experience the value of resource circulation. Participants created their own companion plants by planting and decorating air-purifying plants in upcycled planters. The booth attracted strong interest and participation from citizens of all ages, as it was designed as an interactive experience that anyone could easily enjoy. Beyond the hands-on activity itself, the booth also featured educational sessions and mini environmental quizzes to raise awareness about the seriousness of the climate crisis and the importance of resource circulation. In particular, the booth operated on Saturday, April 18, was connected to Earth Day and included environmental education about the meaning of Earth Day and the importance of environmental protection. Through the program, participants were able to naturally recognize that the activity was not simply a craft experience, but part of a broader effort to respond to the climate crisis and protect the environment.

■ Stories of Environmental Action Created Together

Participants also took time to reflect on eco-friendly actions they could practice in their daily lives. After the activity, an additional participation program was conducted using Padlet, where citizens shared the climate actions they already practice and their environmental commitments for 2026. Participants freely wrote about their personal goals and experiences, such as “reducing the use of disposable products,” “practicing proper recycling,” and “saving resources,” while encouraging and empathizing with one another’s commitments. They also shared the message that small actions can come together to create greater change.

This program was operated for citizens visiting the Geumcheon Live event. Many participants showed interest and curiosity when they heard that the planters were made from discarded plastic vinyl, which naturally led them to participate in the booth activities. Through this experience, it was possible to see how products that creaatively reuse everyday waste materials can help citizens more intuitively understand the value and importance of resource circulation. 

Additionally, participants in the padlet event were given Climatus College reusable bags made from recycled materials, allowing them to carry home the planters they had planted themselves. This also conveyed the message of reducing plastic vinyl consumption in daily life and encouraging the use of eco-friendly shopping bags, helping parti0cipants continue sustainable pracitces in their daily lives even after the program ended.
